How Flora Source Works for You
Bacteria has been waging a war in your gut since early childhood and it’s the typical age-old battle of good versus bad. Good bacteria—probiotics—fight to crowd out the bad bacteria that interfere with the proper break down of foods, impede nutrient absorption and cause every type of occasional digestive distress from occasional constipation to occasional gas to heartburn. Over time, our bodies accumulate more bad bacteria, from processed foods, sluggish colons and environmental factors, making it critical to bolster levels of the good bacteria.*
For some people, all it takes to reinforce the good bacteria and restore balance to the digestive system is a solid daily dose of probiotics. But digestive issues, such as occasional constipation, occasional gas, occasional bloating and indigestion are distress signals that your gut needs more powerful help. By the same token, overloading your system at once with too many probiotics (upwards of 70 billion CFU) can cause cramping and bloat and, worse, can overstimulate your immune system.*
After spending a good deal of time with the research, our team recommends 32 billion CFU for anyone suffering with any occasional digestive complaints. This amount helps prevent occasional constipation, occasional gas, occasional bloating, occasional diarrhea and indigestion without causing other problems.*
Flora Source delivers this recommended 32 billion CFU of friendly bacteria to your small and large intestine, ensuring an end to your most stubborn digestives issue within days. This maximum strength formula gives you:*
- Proprietary Probiotic Synbiotic Blend at 32 Billion CFU per Daily Dose (243 mg)
Flora Source gives you 16 scientifically studied probiotic strains that were specifically chosen for their ability to resist the acid and bile in your GI tract, so they can safely travel to and colonize in your intestines, where they’re needed most. For an added line of defense, Flora Source uses a patented Matrix Encapsulation process that protects the probiotics with an outer shell to preserve the bacteria during manufacturing and packaging.*
At the heart of Flora Source is a specially selected strain of B. lactis called Bifidobacterium lactis HN019 (or Bif Relief 24-7) that’s been widely studied and shown to improve gastrointestinal transit time, ease digestive complaints, balance intestinal microflora, and support immune function.*
In addition to B. lactis HN019, Flora Source gives you 4 more strains from the Bifidobacteria group (Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium breve, and Bifidobacterium lactis) that help:*
- Support cleansing of the colon and healthy colon function*
- Promote energy production*
- Keep elimination running regularly*
- Support urinary and vaginal health*
But, the power of this maximum strength formula doesn’t stop there. Flora Source also gives you 9 strains from the Lactobacilli family: Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus paracasei, Lactobacillus gasseri, and Lactobacillus salivarius to help:*
- Support healthy bowel movements*
- Maintain a healthy immune system*
- Digestion of dairy products*
- Glucose metabolism*
- Support gut comfort*
- Support a healthy stomach and intestinal lining*
- Promote and maintain a healthy digestive tract*
- Promote healthy skin*
- Support healthy vaginal flora*
Rounding out the formula are Lactococcus lactis, which helps produce key B vitamins and vitamin K, and Streptococcus thermophilus to support a healthy mucosal lining in the small intestine.*
- Prebiotics—NutraFlora® Prebiotic scFOS® 75 mg and Inulin Prebiotic 75 mg
Prebiotics, a type of fiber found in vegetables and other plants, are food for probiotics—in fact, their whole purpose is to feed your intestinal bacteria so the good can thrive and function better. The minimal prebiotics you get through your diet may be enough to feed low-dose probiotics you take for basic digestive health maintenance. When taking a high dose probiotic, however, it’s critical to ensure those healthy bacteria are well-fed.*
That’s why we included not one, but TWO types of prebiotics in Flora Source, to ensure the health and growth of all of the 32 billion probiotics. You get 75 mg of NutraFlora scFOS® (short-chain fructooligosaccharides), a non-GMO prebiotic and soluble fiber found naturally in fruits, vegetables and grains. And, 75 mg of inulin, a carbohydrate that occurs naturally in fruits and plants, such as chicory root, wheat, onion, banana, garlic, and leek.*
Guaranteed Delivery of Live Probiotics
We can ensure the delivery of live probiotics to your GI in two ways with Flora Source. First, the 16 strains themselves are survivors—they are naturally resistant to the acid and bile in your stomach and intestines. Not only will they travel through your harsh stomach environment easily, but they’ll arrive in your intestines alive and ready to colonize.*
Second, Flora Source utilizes a unique Matrix Encapsulation. This honeycomb-like structure cradles each probiotic cell, creating a protective barrier that protects the probiotics from destructive heat. From manufacturing to your kitchen counter, those precious probiotics are kept intact and alive.*

Research Results
Featured Nutrient— Bif Relief 24-7® (Bifidobacterium lactis HN019):
In a triple-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, researchers examined the effect of B. lactis HN019 on gut transit time in a group of 88 study participants with functional gastrointestinal problems.*
The subjects were divided into 3 groups. One group received a low-dose probiotic at 1.8 billion CFU. A second group received a high-dose probiotic at 17.2 billion CFU. The final group received a placebo. The study lasted for 14 days. Gastrointestinal transit time was measured by subjects ingesting specific markers that were detected by x-ray. The results showed that gastrointestinal transit time was reduced by 25% in the low dose probiotic group, by 33% in the high dose probiotic group and with no appreciable change in the placebo group. In addition, improvements were noted in constipation, irregularity, abdominal pain, and flatulence in the groups given B. lactis HN019.1*
Additional studies on B. lactis HN019 have found that it supports immune health, particularly in older adults.2, 3*
Research on other forms of B. lactis have found that the strain helps to ease constipation. One double-blind, placebo controlled study on women showed an increase in weekly bowel movements from 1.5 to 6, with the percentage of women being constipated decreasing from 15% to 1%.4*
Probiotics for Occasional Diarrhea:*
A course of antibiotics can lead to altered intestinal microbiota, and result in antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD). Symptoms of AAD include watery bowel movements, urgency, cramp-like abdominal pain, and reduced intestinal-wall integrity. Meta-analyses confirm that probiotics can help re-establish the intestinal microbiota, support your immune response, and help clear toxins from the intestines.5, 6*
Another meta-analysis of 34 double-blind, placebo-controlled studies examining the effect of probiotics on acute diarrhea in over 4,800 adults and children concluded that probiotic supplementation was effective and helped prevent diarrhea by 35% overall. Specifically, it reduced antibiotic-associated diarrhea by 52%, reduced the risk of traveler’s diarrhea by 8%, and reduced other various types of acute diarrhea by 34%.7*
Probiotics for Symptoms Related to Irritated Bowels:*
A double-blind, placebo-controlled study compared the effect of a multi-strain probiotic containing B. bifidum, B. lactis, B. longum, L. acidophilus, L. rhamnosus, and S. thermophilus on subjects experiencing symptoms related to irritated bowels. Researchers found that 68% of those taking the multi-strain probiotic experienced significant relief, compared to only 37.5% on placebo. In addition, improvements were seen for abdominal pain, abdominal discomfort intensity, and abdominal bloating.8*
Probiotics for Vaginal and Urinary Health*
The beneficial microbes found in the gastrointestinal tract are also found in women’s vaginal and urinary tracts. Because they migrate from the digestive tract to the genitourinary area, taking probiotic supplements can help support urinary and vaginal health in women. Healthy vaginal microflora contains a high proportion of Lactobacillus bacterial species.*
An early study looked at the role of a yogurt enhanced with L. acidophilus on vaginal microflora and rates of yeast overgrowth in a 1-year crossover trial with women who had experienced unbalanced levels of yeast. In the study, women consumed a cup of yogurt with L. acidophilus for 6 months, then switched over to just yogurt for another 6 months. Results showed significantly better yeast levels while consuming the probiotic yogurt.9*
